I haven’t read a book that has impacted my understanding of the corruption of institution, humanity, or religion more than this. I trusted it to be real and to be poignant but was surprised by how well Levi captures the urgency and pain of attempting to convey the inexpressible.

A phenomenally well-written first-hand account of the experience of being held in Auschwitz (and how the survivors were handled in the immediate period after victory), which aims to document the experience of those detained rather than looking to judge (an exercise left to the reader). A genuine must-read.

For what should have been a soul destroying story this manages to completely lack emotion

A heart breaking, insightful, and necessary read that will never stop being relevant to the world we live in. This should be required reading for every high school student as they study the Holocaust.
