When I saw the synopsis for this book said that it was unforgettable, I was intrigued but not hopeful. Wow, was I wrong. This book plucked every chord of emotion that I had and I truly will not forget it.
In a world where women’s stories of sexual assault are always seen as fiction rather than fact, Summer chose to be brave and tell her side anyway.
This book brought light to the broad, devastating topic of sexual assault, and the even more unfathomable thought of how to proceed when your child is on either side.

Lorrie and Eden are neighbors and best friends that joke about their children marrying one day. Now that their kids are graduating from high school and dating each other, they are content until Knox comes home covered in scratches. Everything changes that fateful night.
Such a Good Family is a story of how sexual assault affects the victim, but also everyone else, including family members and those of the perpetrator as well. It’s a thought-provoking story with some cringy characters mixed with some valiant ones, and I had a hard time putting this book down. This is a deep, dark book that leaves a mark, and I really enjoyed how captivating and powerful it was.
I received a gifted copy.

This book was a page turner for me but I was a little disappointed by the end of the book and how it ended. It seemed to end abruptly and I wanted to know more about the characters.

Important yet uncomfortable book to read. Two best friends with kids that are seniors. The kids start dating, what could be better?? After a party when they are drinking, Summer is sexually assaulted by Knox. This puts family against family. Stories like these are tough yet important, and should help all of us be brave enough to have conversations with our kids about consent.
Parents of both boys and girls, would you rather have your son be accused of assault or your daughter assaulted?
I appreciate that they didn’t paint Knox as a “monster” because it’s easy to have a black and white view of this important issue. He said things like “but we’ve done it before” which is a red flag that means he didn’t get it. And that isn’t any less awful to Summer. Most rapists don’t think they are rapists, because they don’t understand consent.
What I have a hard time with is this; after being raped, if the victim reports, what happens to them afterwards is sometimes so traumatic that they choose to stay silent. Most stories like this are realistic in that way, that is why so few are reported.
