I had never read anything quite like this before and I greatly enjoyed it. Reading it felt like falling into a twisted fairytale or a campfire horror story. Bloody Summer is deeply thematic in nature and, as I’m sure there is much I yet missed, I will certainly be revisiting this story many times. It explores many heavy topics but I personally believe this is a powerful story of sexual violence, anti-colonialism,  violence, and the reclamation of power.

(Note: that last sentence makes it seem like this would be a very heavy story to read but it isn’t. Nearly everything is off page mentions and is written in such a way that keeps the power of the sentiment without being triggering)

I really liked the format of this, a researcher in the future writing about children's rhymes in relation to a strange event that had happened in a small American town years before. This is the first thing I've read by this author and it made my head spin.
