Despite its reputation as a gothic/horror story, I didn't find it to be anything close to either of those genres. Not that I'm trying to challenge the fact that it's a classic—in fact, it's very deserving of that title considering its wonderful descriptive imagery. What I did not expect was how incredibly entertaining and down-right hilarious ! it would be. If anything, this amazing short story was peak comedy, and Ichabod—what a hateable douche—totally deserved what was coming to him.

I've read this before, but first time listening to the audiobook. The language is cumbersome enough that it trips up the narrative. I would recommend reading it instead.

I found the story more so hilarious because the Headless Horseman has become such a Halloween icon, but the actual Headless Horseman is just a man who wanted a girl to himself so he threw a pumpkin at a guy on horseback.
Genuinely a good Halloween read though.
