Since reading Olympics is canceled for the foreseeable future due to COVID, e decided to create our own book list and compete internally. This is the first book on our list and it is very cute. I think kids will give it 5 stars!

Contemporary Mississippi, 3rd grader J.D. teaches himself how to create great hair with clippers. The story is short, solid, well illustrated, funny and very empowering. All about artistic abilities and the Fade, also based on author's story, and altogether a great read. Love the friendships, J.D.'s persistence and confidence and the realistic family life. Also love that one of his good friends and the best peewee football player in town is a girl named Jessyka. She takes no crap.

Math skills included. Would recommend to any kid in 3rd grade
J. D. gets a bad hair cut and comes up with a wonderful side hustle. He puts his artistry to use when he starts cutting his own hair and the hair of his friends. The local barber isn't too happy about this and a battle is declared. Who will win? I loved this story so much. J.D. has such a supporting cast of people in his life. It makes the story believable and engaging. Perfect for elementary school students and for one on one reading.
