'Bird & Squirrel on Ice' is the second volume in the series. I haven't read the first volume, but this one was great. So far, I've been very impressed with the Scholastic Graphix line of books for young readers.
Bird and Squirrel find themselves crash landing in the South Pole. A young penguin named Sakari is convinced that Bird is the chosen one and takes her back to her village. Bird thinks this is pretty great and lets it go to his head. Squirrel is concerned that his friend is over his head and wants to stop him while he can. Sakari is out to prove her independence to her father. There is plenty of humor and adventure to go around.
I loved the Sakari character for her bravery. Bird and Squirrel show that friendship is important. There is lots to laugh at here and James Burks' story and art are perfect for younger readers.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Scholastic Graphix and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this fun graphic novel.

I just think they are such a funny duo–reminds me of Abbott and Costello
Cute pairing of zany bird character with straight-man squirrel character. This time they take a wrong turn to the South Pole and encounter penguins who need some help. Good for younger elementary kids.
Bird and Squirrel are back and as usual, Bird has them in a new predicament. But, as usual, he's calm, cool and collected about the situation whereas Squirrel is completely freaking out! Always good to see they didn't lose their character traits in this next adventure!
We also meet Sakari, a new penguin friend, who shows both Bird and Squirrel how to be brave and how to help your friends!
Thanks to NetGalley for the early digital copy.

When Bird and Squirrel fall from the sky a penguin takes Bird to be the fulfillment of a prophecy that claims he will save the penguin's village from a whale. Bird embraces this role while Squirrel is more skeptical. When Squirrel discovers that the penguin king is planning to FEED bird to the whale he has to think of a plan fast to save his friend.
Cute graphic novel, part of a series.
Good for ages 8 and up.

This is such a cute, adorable little graphic novel with two funny characters who, in this story, end up part of an epic prophecy including an Orca whale. It's short and sweet, but works for what it tries to do, and I can see this as a great, great reluctant reader book for anyone, especially reluctant boys.
These characters are adorable and hilarious. It's no wonder my students love these books!

The unlikely, but highly entertaining, duo of Bird and Squirrel are back for an adventure at the South Pole. They meet some penguins whose existence is threatened by the presence of a killer whale. If Bird & Squirrel can't figure out how to help the penguins, they will become the whale's next meal.
I love everything about this graphic novel: the characters, the illustrations, the story-line. Students will also enjoy the antics of this crazy pair.
