Okay so this is described as a dark fairytale on here, but it’s actually a bleak fairytale. One of the very few books I’ve read that doesn’t waste a single page. It genuinely holds you captive from beginning to end. Nothing feels wasteful. Nothing feels unnecessary. All of the characters are compelling. The twists and turns and reveals feel earned. I just really loved this book a lot. Krystal Sutherland has such a visceral voice as a writer, I can really feel and see and touch and smell and taste EVERYTHING she puts on the page.

Very much looking forward to reading more from her.

Yes, I know it's May. But listen, it's going to be practically impossible for any book to just wander into my life and beat this one out. It was absolutely WILD and GORGEOUS and HAUNTING and CREEPY and PERFECT.

First off, spooky cottagecore, twisted fairytale, unreliable protagonist is an entire vibe right now and I can't get enough. Just when I thought no book could fill the "Wink Poppy Midnight" void in my heart, here comes Iris and her sisters. How Krystal Sutherland left my head scrambling even after the book was closed is just *chef's kiss*. The characters were astonishing, the fantasy-nature fashion was mesmerizing, and the atmosphere, the ATMOSPHERE, was so good I'm in tears just thinking about it.

Plus, is there anything more haunting and fascinating than random creepy doors in the middle of the woods?

I love the writing of this book and the story really pulled me in. I couldn’t put it down! Loved the mysterious, gory, floral, decaying vibes. Didn’t love the way the author writes mental health issues. I looked at some of her other work and I didn't like how disability was represented either. It’s safe to say this author prefers to use disability and mental health issues as thematic elements to add to the story, rather than actual representation.

And ur the fucking reason that tyler is dead so dont give me that shit. Also what the fuck? Ur like omg i cant believe that bitch would say thats how tyler died? Like she p much said the truth? Would u rather she said oh yeah tyler would still be alive if my dumb bitch of a sister, who literally couldnt even follow the very clear clues i left her, cause she left him in a clearly dodgy place while he was asleep and clearly vulnerable. This book was incredibly intriguing and i liked a lot of it, however for me some of the descriptions made my skin crawl and made me incredibly nauseated. I enjoyed reading it but i don’t think i could handle reading it again. I think it’s great that the author was able to make me feel physically ill with her descriptions but for me it was too much. i did hope for a different ending but the twist was still good. this is not just a fantasy book like people on book tok say. this is a HORROR book. so beware of that going in. all in all it was a good book.
