By the author's own words he is not a writer so this needs to be taken into consideration when reading this book. He wanted to document the experiences at his home and profits from the book raise money for charity, which is admirable.  And extra star in my rating for that. 
The experiences noted are interesting and I would loved to have known more about the house itself and the previous owners but i don't think the Author could find much detail on thus. The Last quarter of the book is compelling when he has people come to investigate.
