Great informative, easy to digest book that brings history to an understanding of economic cycles. Extremely useful—especially at the time of my reading it in early 2022. I will be shorting the stock market this year!!

This book examines the characteristics of the Big Cycles of empires. Dalio argues America is in the late stages of the Big Cycle, showing all the signs of a weakening empire. China, he argues, is on the rise.

Dalio shows that late stage empires face economic challenges (particularly those dealing with decadence, debt, and devaluation of currency), challenges to internal order challenges as wealth gaps increase, and external order challenges as new empires emerge.

Dalio appears to be a bit starry-eyed as it relates to China. Still, his analysis rings true in so many ways. This was the first book I finished in 2022 (non-audio). It might have been the most important book I’ve read in the last few years relating to politics and the economy.
