DNF. I only gave it 60-odd minutes but I found that there was too much going on to really get into it. The characters were unbelievable and unlikeable so I decided to move on...

This book felt less like a book and more like an amalgamation of scifi concepts the author thought were cool. But the concepts were all gimicky and commonplace with no satisfying characters to fall back on. JJ was not built up enough for me to care about him, even through Kobo, so i could not care about the murder mystery. Not very good imo. Just overdone scifi concepts with no substance.

A murder mystery of upgraded body proportions. Plenty of twists and turns to make this book stand out from the rest of the humdrum mysteries I've been reading. You don't have to love baseball, but sports are a theme here. And pharmaceuticals.

Huh. There’s a lot of weird stuff and some interesting ideas in this book. Dystopian baseball cyberpunk noir? Yeah, that’s how I’d describe it.

I wasn’t really expecting Neanderthals.

The Body Scout is a cyberpunk-type fantasy horror story set in a near-future dystopian New York, where body modifications and genetic material mutation techniques are very prevalent among humans. The centre of all this is a baseball game backed by pharmaceutical companies.

The author has created a world too similar to ours, steeped with corruption and that favours capitalism. The writing is sharp, witty and sarcastic at places that contributes to keep the reader’s attention! Yes its a weird story, but its brilliantly good. A must read for speculative fiction and dystopian lovers! I’m not a cyberpunk head, but I think you’ll enjoy this if you are one.
