I thought this was a really fun read. The pacing of the story was really solid, my demerit is because it crammed so much in roughly 24 hours. I think it will would have worked with just a touch of breathing room to develop on that front.

i enjoyed the mystery aspect up until the last few twists. it wasn’t necessary to have our girl go through so much 😭
the romance was alright. i love a second chance but i would have liked to see more of the relationship than just sexual tension.

Now, let me start by saying I was so intrigued by the glamour and utter beauty of seeing two south east asian characters on the cover. This is my first foray with Alisha Rai and overall I do find her writing style very easy to fall into with great intrigued. Partners in Crime is a mix of a rom-com with a thrilling cat & mouse chase. Mira has recently lost her Auntie Rhea, a family member she holds near and dear to her heart after years of coming to grips with her familial unit not being so nuclear. On top of the loss, she has also just been dumped by her latest beau whom she'd met from a match making Auntie who for all intents of purposes seems to have failed....that is until an ex-match and lover Naveen enters the picture.
Naveen has his own perils in terms of a personal past tryst between himself and his brother. He's trying his best to stay on the straight and narrow as well after a lapse in judgement that lands him in rehab. The two of them are joined together because of a last will reading from Auntie Rhea, on the way out of the meeting a foreboding character approaches, danger is in front of them in seconds and before they know it they're knocked out only to wake up later in an abandoned area in the middle of Nevada. The bad men want to question Mira about an item that was stolen from their boss, said item being something that her father who had a very criminal and sordid past would know about. The issue? Her father's been long gone. The secondary issue? Now she has to navigate this puzzle and scheme with Naveen.
Overall, a very enjoyable read and high grade PINING which I am a sucker for. Along with some spicy scenes, I so appreciated a look into the culture and high rising stakes. However I lost the plot a bit once the big twist and reveal happened and because of that I docked my score a bit just because it felt very rushed to me. I do wonder though if the author's intention was to make it as ridiculous and cheesy as a bollywood film? And if so then I get that but not sure if it translated as well on paper.

Have I just found a new favourite genre/trope? Crime romance may be my new thing!
I have read a couple of books by Alisha Rai before and I really enjoy her romance books, this was no exception. It was actionpacked with a bit of mystery to it. I liked the characters, both the main couple and the side characters. How refreshing to read a great book with indian representation directly after the disaster that was Dating Dr Dil.
