Well I actually liked it, the reason why i didn't rate it higher is because I left the book for more than 2 months before finally finishing it. For that reason i felt a bit disconnected by the end. I liked the twists on well known fairytales. I will go on with the series and see how i like it

After the tv show came out I was fascinated by Geralt and the origin of the Witchers, so I tried to read Blood of Elves, and DNF for some reason. I picked up this one and found it to be a much easier starting point! Geralt has such a dry sense of humor and after a few chapters I understood how the story was being told. I wish the author added a few more descriptions, be it of appearance or action - you have to read between the lines quite a bit. However I love fantasy and I loved this - can't wait to start sword of destiny.

This was a fun, fast-paced and action-filled introduction to The Witcher! Definetely recommend if you loved the game(s) and/or Netflix series.

Also, I have to admit I liked that some of the shorts in here were inspired by classic fairytales! (but then Witcher-style (ofcourse ;)

A gift from a friend. Interesting take on old fairy tales. Very blokey to me.

*I listened to the audio book*

I found The Witcher when it came out on Netflix and didn't know anything about the books or games. And I fell in love. I was obsessed. And I felt the same way with the book. I love magic and swords and hot people fighting, so this was honestly perfect. An unexpected but absolutely delightful surprise was the sprinkling of classic fairytales into the history of the book. They alluded to these stories as if they were historical events and I thought that was so fun and interesting.
I've heard people say that this book is misogynistic, but I didn't really get that vibe. But again, I listened to it instead of reading it so maybe if I saw the words I would've registered them differently.
Three of the most powerful and respected characters in the book (and show) are women (which doesn't exclude it from that label, it's just something worth noting), the main character is gruff but loveable and loyal and there's a lot of silly little jokes. Parts of this book literally had me laughing out loud. Love love love.

(Plus, the voice acting for the Sylvan?? HILARIOUS.)

I appreciated my pre-reading watch through because the first season followed the book well enough that I always had an idea of where I was and what was happening.
