Watch out, this girl’s got MOXIE. And I mean that in a literal sense - this book is like a middle grade, queer take on the well known YA book (and movie) Moxie. It examines, (probably uncomfortably for some readers and especially parents) sexual harassment in middle school and the numerous ways very early on that girls are sexualized, and their words dismissed - even by well-meaning adults. Therefore, it sure packs a punch. Hazel herself is a very entertaining and snarky narrator and as she opens her heart to new friends, she learns how to stand up for herself and others, and also how to learn from her past mistakes with an open mind.
Moderate: Sexual harassment
Minor: Homophobia
