I loved the first book and really wanted to like this one but I missed Hani and who Seokga was with her almost as much as he did. It did not feel as good with Kisa, and I was not a huge fan of her or of the mystery in this book.

Summer 2024, I read The God and the Gumiho and review with #justiceforsomi.

Summer 2025, I read The God and the Gwisin and find it.

One less star for me, because I personally found trickster Hani far more attention-grabbing and intriguing than poor overworked Kisa as female leads, as much as they share the same soul and the same love. The plot also felt a bit more obvious - but the ending is living the dream.

I enjoyed this book less than the first book but found it enjoyable nonetheless. I found the reincarnation very interesting and a refreshing angle. The book was a bit predictable i liked the new characters and the relationships that formed.

I didn’t think I would like this book nearly as much as the first one. After all, how could I move on from Hani, the sassy, rebellious, morally gray gumiho that thawed a god’s cold heart?

But oh how I loved this one, just as much (if not more) than the first.

No, I’ll admit I love it more. I couldn’t get enough of lovesick, “touch her and die” Seokga. My favorite trope are men obsessed with their women, and Seokga was down bad for Hani and Kisa.

Plus I love how it explored the relationship further between Somi and Hani/Kisa.

I could tell that every aspect of this duology was well planned. The symmetry between the stories of Hani and Kisa were artfully done. And that ending??

Who doesn’t want to live in a magical library forever with a devoted god of trickery??

I have so many more thoughts. I just thoroughly enjoyed these books.

I really enjoyed the second book in this series. There are so many parts that make me giggle. I really enjoyed the characters and their quirks. It’s also such an interesting world and setting, with all the different creatures.
