“So I suppose I was her? Or she is me? Rebirth philosophy is such a convoluted field.”

The God And The Gwisin was a delightful read, maybe even more than book 1.
Just like in book 1, we go with the murder mystery’s flow and turn the pages without realizing. This time, it’s a “locked-room mystery”-like story, and it happens on a cruise boat. I loved that dynamic and how it gave rhythm to the book, as much as it engaged the reader.
Because of what happened at the end of book 1, this time the relationship and dynamics between the characters –and the resulting romance– are very different. When the Scarlet Fox was cutting and bold, Kisa is more like a socially awkward nerd (spoiler alert, I loved her SO SO much). I loved this change as it questions identity, what is left of us when we “go”, but also, what does it mean to fall in love with someone –and why do you do so. Because as much as Hani and Kisa are different, they are also the same. So… why is Seokga in love with Kisa? Because she’s also Hani? Or because of who she is now? I loved that situation, and how difficult it was for Kisa to deal with that, and the associated pressure.
In the end, that (and other things) made The God And The Gwisin a book also about that grief and letting go your “old”self, and I loved that the therapist was so present in the book to increase that feeling. But let’s be honest, this book is first and foremost very funny, and an addictive read. I’ll miss this universe.

Thank you to the author and DelRey for the eARC sent via NetGalley. My opinions are my own.

I love this series!! This is the sequel to The God and the Gumiho by Sophie Kim (seriously, this series is awesome. Go read this first one if you haven't already). I was SO stoked to get this as an ARC!

This is a murder mystery on a cruise ship in the Underworld, what could be better?! Oh yeah, add your reincarnated fated love being dead and having no memory of you. Hijinks ensue... This was a whole lot of fun based around Korean mythology. I absolutely love broadening my mythology horizons and this did not disappoint!

I highly recommend this series if you haven't read it yet! Seriously, so good! I got the original in my Fairyloot box and I've already preordered this sequel for a physical copy. Oops... 😊

Thanks @netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

A delightful sequel. Picks up and takes off running with the same feel and energy as the first book. Love all the returning characters as well as the new. A fun, kdrama-vibe filled adventure.

I loved this story, so much. I was worried about how it would go after the ending of the first one. I was missing Hani, but I grew to really love Kisa too. Sophie Kim did such a great job of introducing a 'new' character in and doing a 33 year time jump.

Seokga's patience with Kisa is so sweet. He's done a lot of growing and self work in the time he's been looking for Hani's reincarnation. It was interesting to learn more of Seokga's life from before his exile and why his relationship is so strained with his brother and the other gods. Baby God is absolutely hilarious and I love seeing Seokga care for him. Somi's reincarnation was a surprise too but a good one.

The twists of who was behind what were really good. I will say I felt for Seokga and the work he had done for him to be betrayed in that way... more than once.

I am so happy that Seokga and Kisa/Hani finally got their happy ending that was denied in the first book but please tell me there's going to be a book 3? like that ending surely leads open the door? Even if there's no book 3 of the Fate's Thread, I would love to read more in the universe and other books by Sophie Kim.

NetGalley and Random House provided me with a free version of this book for my honest review - thank you!

Im just so obsessed with this series and characters. That cliffhanger?? Book 3 immediately needed.

It has been thirty-three years since Seokga and Hani saved the world from endless darkness. And thirty-three years since they were separated. Since then, Seokga has been searching relentlessly for her reincarnation with no luck. Especially now that the red string of fate that is supposed to bring them together has become a jumbled, useless mess.

Kisa is beyond exhausted. She was exhausted as a doctor when she was living. And now she’s even more exhausted as she repays her karmic debt from her last life while waiting for reincarnation. When they both end up on a cruise ship in another realm, they must team up to solve a new mystery that may be more than it seems while their fates hang in the balance.

This book was fast-paced and engaging from the start. I enjoyed how we explored Seokga’s background and family dynamics a bit more, which allowed us to have a much better understanding of his character. We also were reunited with some old friends and met new ones who helped with the investigation. Seeing how the characters have grown and changed since we last saw them was exciting. I had a blast reading this sequel, and certainly would not complain if we get to visit this world again.

This is the sequel to the God and the Gumiho and this review will contain spoilers of the first book.

I was devastated when Hani and Seokga did not get their HEA at the end of the first book but this book definitely made up for it. I was very worried that this would be a mediocre sequel because honestly.. a cruise for the undead? What does that have to do with anything? But I am EATING. MY. WORDS. I loved this just as much as the first one although for some different reasons.

I want to say that these were character driven books because they all have such great arcs, but there was still a good amount of mystery and action. We learn about so many more creatures and some of the gods which added depth to the story as well as Seokga’s character. There was also some great exploration of mental health, grief, forgiveness, fate, love, and friendship. This had everything I wanted and so much more.

The God and the Gwisin had the same enjoyable balance of serious and unserious that The God and the Gumiho had; I will gladly read this duo over and over again.
