3.5 - narrated by 12 year old Ricky Bird, your heart aches for her as not only is she dealing with changes to her body, but the effect those changes have on others and the lack of control she feels

Trigger warnings for CSA, Suicide

I loved Ricky's easy going creative and humorous persona. There were times I had a good chuckle and really resonated with her initial character. The book definitely highlights the twists and turns of an everyday teen getting caught up into uncontrollable circumstances. The innocence of teenage hood and forever never been heard.
Unfortunately this book didn't quite reach the 5

One of my favourites of the year. Big, tough topics tackled from the perspective of an innocent and curious child. Beautiful

One of the most stunning pieces I've read in a long time that so sensitively and acutely reveals the life of the main character, with so much tenderness, skill and generosity.

I love Ricky Bird's voice. It's unforgettable.

I feel like I read a different book to most reviewers and the blurb. It is HEAVY. I did not find it joyful and heartwarming because mostly it was a really troubled girl dealing with some INTENSE trauma (like, extreme childhood trauma bingo).

I really enjoyed it and thought it was well written and I liked the characters but a large part of it is just unrelentingly bleak. Her brother is a lovely character but he is honestly barely even in it, their relationship is not a focus.
