So, a little eh, because it is YA. I'm not really a big fan of any of these characters...but I'll keep going.

Spoiler Also, this book toed the Twilight line. This girl is talking about being in love with an angel after DAYS of meeting him? Is this what we should be teaching our young girls? Fall in love right away, even though he is weird and slightly stalking you? And seriously, does Darynda Jones have a copywrite on the phrase "Heat pooled in my abdomen."?

2.5 stars. I have very mixed feelings about this. I liked the story and most of the characters. I had a huge problem with Lorelei's "insta-love" with Jared. I can't count how many times I rolled my eyes whenever she was around him. It was very textbook story-line. The girl isn't popular, a mysterious boy shows up, girl falls in love with the boy, the boy has a hidden past and so on. But I really liked the rest of the story and the secondary characters. I will give the 2nd one a chance because I really like Darynda Jones.

For me this was and average good book I'm quite curious how it's gonna continue. Is it bad though that I like Brooklyn\Cameron\Glitch more than the two main characters?

This would have been really good except for two things.
1. Insta-Love
2. Predictable

Still worth a read though.

hoping that the next book would be much better.. so many twist and turn on this first and I felt I haven't yet connected to any of the characters.

Pretty good start, I'm hoping the next book will go a bit faster. This seemed a bit "wordy" to me.

Title: Death and the Girl Next Door

Series: Darklight

Author: Darynda Jones

Genre: Young Adult Paranormal Romance

Synopsis:

Sophomore Year Was Never Supposed to be This Complicated

Ten years ago, Lorelei McAlister's parents disappeared without a trace, ans she is finally beginning to accept the fact that they're never coming back. Life must go on. She's got her grandparents and the support of her best friends, and high school is not quite as painful as she thought it would be.

But This is What Happens When You Fall for the Angel of Death.

Until the day the school's designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it, standing outside her house in the dark, tough, sexy Jared Kovach - comes to school. Cameron and Jared instantly despise each other, and Lorelei seems to be the reason for their animosity.

Life as She Knows it is About to Change Forever.

What does Jared know about her parents? Why does Cameron tell Jared he can't have Lorelei? And what will any of them do when Death comes knocking for real? Thrilling, sassy, sexy, and inventive, Death and the Girl Next Door proves Darynda Jones is a force to be reckoned with.

My Thoughts:

Four "Hot Angel of Death" Stars!

I really enjoyed this book. I mean, I am a HUGE fan of Darynda Jones' series Charley Davidson so when I saw that she had another series, a young adult one, I jumped right on in.

I loved the story line, the plot. It was something you don't see very much of in Young Adult. In YA, most of the times it's vampires or fallen angels, but Darynda blew my mind with her imagination. It's actually pretty similar to the Charley Davidson series, but I loved it all the same.

The chemistry between Jared and Lorelei is off the charts is a fun, flirty kind of way, with a little bit of steam. Oh, and there is NO LOVE TRIANGLE. Don't be confused by the synopsis.

Anyway, I did enjoy this book and recommend it to anyone with a hunger for a flirty type of romance and a fantasy element that is a fresh new idea.

LOVED THIS BOOK!

Thank you, Darynda Jones!
