The weakest Jury mystery--when things bog down, toss in another body.

But, for those who love the better later books, it explains so much.

Re-read this after about 10 years (God I'm old) and I still think it's nice. Lovely characters. Plant is just great. And the scenery. Ducks bobbing on the pond. Snow-covered Long Piddeton. I want to visit England.

This took a lot longer for me to read than it should have. I liked it. The plot was intelligent and the writing was very descriptive, but just the right amount to not be boring but to pull you completely into the story. Also: I like crime stories that go on for a bit after the case is solved. So yay new series!

The fun little murder mystery with quirky characters! Look forward to reading more about Melrose Plant and Richard Jury.

I loved this British mystery featuring Inspector Jury. The characters are humorous, quirky, and likeable. Jury is a wonderful protagonist. I look forward to working my way through the other Grimes novels.

9/1 - 9/2 2019 Reread (audiobook). Hearing Martha Grimes'words read aloud reminded me why I fell in love with this series when I first read it. The narrator did a great job bringing the colorful characters to life, and Ms. Grimes'penchant for poetic turns of phrase really shone through in the performance.

I found this mostly enjoyable. I think long mystery series can take some time to get going, so I'm going to at least give the next couple a chance. There are definitely Gamache/Brunetti whispers here, (this came first!), so again, I'm game.
