Unfortunately this books did not live up to the standards that Wranglestone set, with a big plot twist that was so eye-rolling that made me want to drop it.

The author went down a "we, humans and consumerism are the real enemy" and "real life is being close to the land" path full of cliches.

The allegorie became reality at some point, and I was not a fan of it.

The character development heavily relied on miscommunication due to keeping secrets which usually makes me side with the character who stays in the dark, aka Peter.

The relationship was still cute and I enjoyed the first part of the book, which had a really heartbreaking moment.

There is just something about Peter and Cooper that has my heart in a chokehold. The tenderness with which Darren writes is truly remarkable. The entire book was tiptoeing along the edge of heartbreak, the tension/almost fear actually increased in this book even though there were less wild restless ones, it was mysterious and had such an eloquent insight into the loves shared between two people and the ways in which we can know each other so deeply and yet still have parts of us the other just cannot fathom. Yes the overall message of consumerism = bad did get a little old, there are many an unanswered question in the details and some events did seem to come out of nowhere. However it’s such an easy read and there were many a tear at the end, my brain may have found a few flaws but my heart was very happy.

Timberdark (Wranglestone Book 2) by Darren Charlton takes readers back into the world of West Wranglestone, where Peter and Cooper hope to find a safe haven for the living and the Returned. However, this book was not as enjoyable as the first instalment in the series, and readers who haven’t read the first book may find it confusing.

Despite their hopes, the two boys soon discover that West Wranglestone is not the utopia they were looking for, and the forces controlling the town are far more powerful than they ever imagined. As Cooper grows closer to others like himself, Peter is forced to confront his fears about the Returned, ultimately confiding in the sheriff’s son, Teddy.

Charlton’s writing is thrilling and thought-provoking, making Timberdark a gripping and intense sequel to the highly acclaimed WRANGLESTONE. Fans of Patrick Ness, Marcus Sedgwick, DREAD NATION, and The Walking Dead will find themselves drawn into the story and invested in Peter and Cooper’s journey as they struggle to set aside their differences and learn to trust each other again.

Overall, while Timberdark may not live up to the high bar set by its predecessor, it is still a worthwhile read for those who enjoyed the first book and are looking to continue exploring this fascinating world.
