this book is crazy. it feels like a fever dream to read. the characters are all pretty insufferable but luckily it didn’t ruin the experience.

This is NOT a horror book
It’s really just a boring coming of age book.  With really sad characters that can’t move on and need approval. 

It was a 1.5 star book for me. I rounded up to 2 bc the writing was very descriptive. It gave me great visuals.

This is a book that reads as very disturbing, but not because of gory description (which there are plenty of), but more because in true southern gothic fashion it takes a supernatural look at addiction through the lense of grief. It's difficult to see an extreme of a feeling that likely everyone will experience at some point in their life. 

The plot is full of despair, body horror, social commentary, and genuinely creepy moments that made my skin crawl. Reminders of the death and horror that is part of our country's unfortuante history and current every day life.
