This book is good but not great even though I really wanted it to be. If you are wanting to get into reading Star Wars books I do not recommend this book at all. Read another Star Wars book and then read this book as it is very convoluting to the point it switches pov mid chapter which isnt a very good reading experience. It should have been longer so that Wending had the chance to introduce us to the characters and develop them. I really wish we got more time with Norra and Termin to actually feel their conflict same with Sinjir and Jas. Those two ended up feeling really underdeveloped so that Wending could develop Norra and Termin in the short word count he has available. Also if your Lgtbq+ do not come looking for good rep, Termins Aunts are really poorly written and the neglect they give him is sugar coated as oh Norra you shouldn't have gone to war. Not to mention Sinjirs coming out scene is really poor due to the fact there's a very dangerous pedophilia joke about Jas thinking Sinjir has a crush on Termin. Honestly Wending should have conversed with Lgtbq+ writers before publishing it. Not to mention the ending was rushed to, honestly my main issue with this book is definitely the length.

Now onto the positives. Aftermath certainly lives up to its name. If your heavy into politics and political thrillers you will really enjoy this book as it shows us how the galaxy is holding up through the beautiful interludes. Want to warn you that some of the interludes will leave you feeling nostalgic and an emotional mess. Seeing what other characters were up to after the fall of the empire was really entertaining for me. Without any spoilers some of the interludes will remind you of real life. The interludes also give us a break from the messy pov switches in the main chapters. Its not just the empire thats written really well.
Admiral Ray Salone is a really well written villian and her pov chapters/paragraphs are definitely the most interesting. Wending helps us get inside her head and helps us try to understand why she thinks the empire failed and why she's still so loyal to the empire. I haven't read the other two books in the trilogy but I one hundred percent bet that she will be causing our crew problems in the future. Good villains are complex but still entertaining. I also like the fact they aren't trying to redeem her. Although I had problems with the way the main crew Norra, Termin, Sinjir and Jas were written I still think they were joyful and really good additions to the Star Wars universe. Termin especially as I didn't think a book would be able to get me to care about a minor sequel character. Really hope we get to see more of Sinjir and Jas but judging on the end of the book its not likely. The characters journeys were fun to read.
Overall I do recommend this book but read after you have read other Star Wars books.
