Ich muss zugeben, seit dem ich Mama eines Sohnes bin mache ich mir viele Gedanken zum Thema “Ein Junge sein”. Wie sollte ein Junge in der heutigen Gesellschaft sein? Wie darf er sein? Wie kann ich ihn unterstützen die beste Version seiner selbst zu sein?
Als ich beim Zuckersüss Verlag dann auf “Ein Junge wie du” stiess, war ich begeistert! Nach genau so einem Buch hatte ich unterbewusst gesucht.
Das Buch erreichte mich in einem schönen Karton, mit einem zauberhaften Spruch darauf.
“Bücher sind der Beweis, dass Menschen zaubern können.”

Ein Junge wie du kommt in einem Hardcover und in einer grossen Grösse daher. Die Seiten sind edel verarbeitet und die Zeichnungen fantastisch! Doch was mich vollends überzeugt ist die wundervolle Botschaft, die dieses Buch vermittelt.
Es ist schön, dass es nun solche Bücher gibt. Bücher die vermitteln, das Jungen auch weinen dürfen, das sie hilfsbereit sein sollen. Sich für andere einsetzen und immer neugierig bleiben sollen. Das sie alles werden können und so wie sie sind schon wunderbar sind!
Ist das nicht schön? Und ich fühle tatsächlich mehr denn je, dass meine Generation nun die Chance hat, kluge und selbstbewusste Jungs grosszuziehen. Jungs, die alles sein dürfen.

Die Botschaft kommt sofort rüber, der Schreibstil unterstützt dies. Die Texte sind einfach gehalten und lassen sich gut vorlesen. Und auch die Illustration ist wundervoll und zuckersüss!

Showcases how important it is to be kind and caring towards other people, instead of playing to win and putting others down. That it’s okay to ask questions and be afraid. Also, there’s a whole page about why it’s okay to cry, and okay for men to cry! Love that! Embrace differences, listen to others, and help people. The entire book is about how men don’t need to be physically and emotionally tough and strong, being strong inside (by being kind and compassionate) is just as important.

This book does a wonderful job of encouraging little boys to be themselves and embrace all the different activities that bring them joy without letting societal expectations force them into patriarchal pigeon holes.
I love the many messages dotted throughout the book about working hard to achieve your goals, sharing your emotions being a sign of strength and the importance of making connections with people as you write your own, unique life story.

While definitely verging into an adult audience rather than a child audience, this picture book follows a biracial boy and celebrates all the things that make him himself. It's written almost like a letter to a child, giving advice and encouragement. There are many positive messages here - defining "strong" in different ways, remembering that it's okay to cry, work hard for what you want, etc. I could definitely see this working for parents and teachers who want to impart some wisdom and need a little help finding the words.
This book has sweet illustrations and a much-needed message about how boys can have lots of different interests, be kind and compassionate, and freely express emotions. The tone seems slightly preachy at times, but everything that this book teaches is great, and it fills an important gap by focusing on boys' emotional needs. I hope to see many more books like this in the future.
This is a MUST READ if you have a boy in your life. Or a girl. This is an EVERYBODY book! The text is perfect. The illustrations are gorgeous.
