Louise begins to feel a little more awake. She has a pounding headache, a parched mouth, and hazy memories, but she has a sneaking suspicion she's done something wrong.
As Louise tries in vain to reconstruct her memories, Jonah Sheens and his team begin to assume that she is the major suspect—but they quickly discover that she isn't the only one with a secret.
Lie Beside Me was an engrossing mystery that drew in a wide range of personalities.
We got to know each of the cops and speculate about what they could do next via their thoughts and actions on the case as well as their personal lives and relationships.

Louise wakes up next to a man she has never seen before and he’s not breathing! She doesn’t think she’s responsible but her memories of the previous night are hazy at best. This is the beginning of the police investigation, headed by Detective Jonah Sheens, that leads to a climactic race against time to open up Louise’s memories. Is Louise responsible for this brutal murder and if she isn’t who is?
This was my first Gytha Lodge book but it certainly won’t be my last (I’ve already ordered her back catalogue). I enjoy nothing more than a twisty intense thriller that keeps me guessing right to the end. What usually disappoints me about these kinds of stories are tenuous clues, unbelievable characters and motives that drop in out of know where….none of which you will find in Lie Beside Me. The characters were all well rounded, the police team included, and the delightful laying of breadcrumb clues really ignited my sleuthing skills. I enjoyed this one a lot and think you should grab yourself a copy…..like now!

A very twisty, perplexing case! I enjoyed the case and the return to the characters. This one was very twisty and kept me turning the pages. The first book in the series is still my favorite, but this installment was better than the second. I look forward to reading more in the series! My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.
Lie Beside Me was very much a detective mystery, rather than a standard thriller. I really enjoyed the relationships and the drama amongst the police/detectives. They were fully fleshed out characters with their own storylines. These storylines felt at the forefront of the book to me, with the mystery and Louise’s point of view interspersed between. This built a little tension when Louise revealed something shocking and integral to the mystery, and the next chapter distracted me with the personal lives of the detectives on the case.
This book is the only book in the series I have read, but I didn’t feel lost. It was very easy to get into, despite the fact I have not read the first book.
However, I did feel the book was missing an edge I usually look for and enjoy in a thriller. I was certainly driven to finish to book and really enjoyed reading it, but I didn’t feel an intense urgency or obsessiveness, which I love in thrillers.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book but realise it was part of a series until I went on goodreads to update my starting it. That was not an issue at all.
The book read well and I didn’t feel like I was missing parts of peoples stories despite it being the third in the series.
Waking up next to a dead man after a roaring night out, Louise is terrified because she doesn’t know who he is or how he got there.
I loved how a tiny piece is revealed chapter my chapter and each character helps to weave the events together. Each character sharing a part of their lives as the story moves along.
Usually I’m quite good at working out whodunnit earlier on but this one kept me guessing till the end!
Definitely will be looking up the other books preceding this one! Excellent writing and and excellent story.

I really love this team but this mystery fell flat . it was good in the beginning but then halfway through, it became boring and that killer revealed messed up everything . I really don't like it when killer is not even there in the book and then pops up out of nowhere in the end -_-
While DCI Jonah Sheens gets the title role, what makes this series so engaging is how well developed all the characters are. Sheens, in this installment, plays a minor role. Not that he is completely excused from the drama! Instead the story focuses on Louise, a woman who spends a lot of time being drunk and blacking out. Did she kill the man she found in her bed? Where did he come from? And, really, why wasn't her best friend giving her more support? The other more prominent character in this book is Constable Hansen who is still struggling with her stalker ex-boyfriend. The combination of these particular two timelines in the same book can not be ignored and highlights the impact of continued abuse can impact a person, regardless of their strength or intellect. While the book is acceptable as a stand alone, I strongly recommend readers grab and read the first two in the series before reading this one. Enjoy the unfolding of the characters!
Thanks to Random House for a copy of the book. This review is my own opinion.

After a big night out, Louise wakes up in bed beside a man. The only problem is, he isn’t her husband. And he’s dead. Louise can’t remember what happened the night before and desperately tries to piece together fragments of memories, because it’s clear that she is the prime suspect.
Featuring a cast of characters, including DCI Jonah Sheens from Gytha’s first two books, it becomes apparent that many have something to hide.
I say this every time I read crime fiction - I don’t know why I don’t read it more often (well part of the reason is I enjoy so many genres

Lie Beside Me by Gytha Lodge is a 2021 Random House publication.
This series keeps getting better!
Louise’s husband is out of town, giving her the perfect excuse to go out partying with her best friend, April. The trouble starts when Louise, as per usual when she’s out with April, gets rip -roaring drunk, then April leaves her at the bar to run off with a guy she just met…
Louise wakes up with the mother of all hangovers and discovers a man in bed beside her- a dead man…
Panicked, Louise moves the body outside before calling the police…
She has no idea who the man was, and she can’t remember one thing that happened after April left the bar…
Once Jonah and his team are handed the case, they are genuinely flummoxed, but when Juliette makes a stunning discovery, Louise becomes the prime suspect.
Meanwhile, Juliette’s ex is still stalking her- but his interference is escalating, jeopardizing her new romantic relationship…
This book grabbed me from the very first paragraph and kept me riveted all the way to the very end. In fact, I put all other books aside to focus on this one exclusively. Man, this series is good!!
The psychological suspense is super tense, and the plot is well- executed. It’s a layered story with several stunning white-knuckle twists, before cleverly weaving all the threads together for a satisfying conclusion.
The detectives, though, are left with some heavy personal issues to cope with, and it will be interesting to see how all this plays out in the next installment, which I can’t wait to read!!
4.5 stars
