The only thing that made me want to detract stars was how the author, in chapter 5 I believe, alluded to his belief that the citizens didn’t have a right to resist their oppressors. He says this chapter that, despite the circumstances,  violence in any form is unacceptable.

But in the wake of the atrocities they face every day… the violence of what the western world wreaks upon the Democratic Republic of Congo, I think them ruining a few cars does not tip the scale…

Otherwise, phenomenal work about an extremely important topic that impacts and is all of our responsibility to fix.

It's with a heavy heart I give this book five stars.

The subject matter is gut-wrenching, but everyone in the world is the reason this book about child labor, death, and modern enslavement in the Congo exists in order to power our rechargeable electronics.

This book will sit with me.
