This is my first book by Ginger Scott and I gotta say, I've loved it!
This book is another romance of my kind of books (like PTSD, broken heroes/heroines, etc.). This one if about Rowe, young girl from Arizona that goes to college outside her hometown. Two years before, her boyfriend and best friend were shot in her school and since then she hasn't been the same. There comes Nate, baseball player, one of the best ones actually. And here comes the love on the first sight. The journey continues through the following months while we watch how the love between Rowe and Nate builds and grows stronger every day. The problem is that Rowe's high school sweetheart (the one who was shot), is lying in his bed, living thank to the tubes and she is feeling guilty. And even though this is not one of those happy happily ever after, it is still happily ever after.
May sounds basic or even boring, but it's amazing!! It's cute, it's cheesy, it's funny, it's basically everything I'm looking for in books. I totally love Rowe and Nate! I don't usually like love-at-the-first-sight stories, but this one got me stuck in it, deeply. They are like a match made in heaven! I liked how Rowe has changed trough the book and it wasn't rushed (like most of the books are). And also she was majoring in art and history, which is more than cool. And then Nate, gosh, I wish every book-boyfriend would be like him!! I love how he wasn't one of those players and truly cared about others and how he had never given up on Rowe. I kind of missed the presence of the minor characters because I think they could be there more, but whatever. And maybe I would like it even better if the author would press more into this heavy topic because I don't think it was that major here. But it was still a heartbreaking story which made you heart-warming in the end! Excited for the story of Ty and Cass next!

*I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*
We first meet Rowe Stanton 2 years after a terrible tragedy, although it is not until later on in the story that it is explained what happened. She is preparing to go to College, a big step after being home schooled for the last 2 years.
She keeps surprising herself with what she is able to do, be so far from home, start to make friends, and when she meets Nate Preeter she is even more surprised that a) she might start to feel for the guy, and b) she is ok with starting to feel something for him.
Nate is just such a sweetheart, he knows what he wants and he goes out to get it, but knows how to do it in a way not to scare Rowe off. Throughout the story you watch as Rowe grows and the relationship between Nate and Rowe develops which is all really sweet. Add in the supporting cast of Ty and Cass' and the awesome Prank wars and this was a lovely read that even had me laughing out loud at some of the pranks, bringing along welcome relief throughout the story.
This is a nice story and was easy to read and i would recommend it for fans of the genre as it is not too hard hitting or dark and there is the comedic element of the Prank Wars.

Nothing particularly flawed with this read it just didn't do anything for me. The characters were meh (other than Ty, Love Ty.) and the plot was... can I use "meh" again? Ya.. the plot was meh.

Damn. This book had such potential. And, going by the other reviews I have read, I am definitely in the minority when it comes to this one, but...in many ways, while it had it's moments, this book was just too overwhelmingly sappy for me.

Rowe has been homeschooled for the last 2 years due to a traumatic event involving the loss of her best friend and boyfriend. She decides to try and come out of her self imposed exile by moving away to go to college, where she meets Nate, a sweet, hopelessly romantic guy who falls for her pretty much instantly.
I have never been a huge fan of insta-love. I much prefer when two characters actually get to know each other before deciding that they are head over heels for the other person. I also don't like needless angst. Something that this book had in spades. While i could understand the heroine's reluctance to get close to Nate, I felt like that aspect of the storyline dragged and just inserted angst where it wasn't needed. For a while it seemed like there was just a constant stream of misunderstandings between the two leads....a plot device that has always seemed like filler to me.
The writing itself was good. And i really enjoyed the dynamic between Nate and his older brother Ty. Plus, there were several swoon-worthy moments involving Nate...a character that while at times came off as overly sappy, i truly did like. He knows instantaneously that he likes Rowe and wants to be with her, but is willing to give her time to deal with the issues she is obviously going through. He's a total sweetheart and I see why Rowe always ended up finding it hard to resist him. Rowe on the other hand was harder for me to warm up to. I understand some of her motivations for how she acted, but...and i know this is going to sound harsh....but sometimes she came off as whiny to me. This i think is where the book suffers the most. The way the author handles that tragedy. I know this wasn't supposed to be the story of Rowe and her high school life with her best friend and boyfriend. But, both Josh and Betsy were never fleshed out enough for me as a reader to care about them. And quite frankly, Rowe hardly mentions the girl who was supposed to be her best friend, and the clearest picture we get of her high school sweetheart, comes from a letter that NATE writes at the end of the book. Which was a problem for me in being able to both care about, and relate to Rowe as a character.

The letter that Nate wrote was beautiful, and it did make me get a wee bit teary eyed. It was probably my favorite part of the entire book. I also liked the over the top ending. It was sweet, romantic and felt like the HEA ending to a big budget Hollywood movie.

This book had it's ups and downs. But overall it was a sweet, if slightly bumpy ride for me.
A phenomenal story about love, loss, strength, second chances, and learning to live again. As always, Ginger Scott pulled me into the story and I couldn't stop reading--I read it all in one sitting. The emotional depth of Ms. Scott's characters is what catches my interest and keeps me sucked into the story--cover to cover--and what will keep me coming back book after book.

I have a new author crush and it's Ginger Scott! I'm slapping for not reading her books sooner. One of my best book buddies, Tracy, has been on my case for months to read her work. After I won an audio version of this one from the author, I decided to finally take the plunge. I was hooked on Rowe and Nate from the beginning. This is an outstanding college/NA romance and has a great storyline and supporting cast. I can't recommend it enough. I can't wait to read the next book!
Audio notes: This is the first book I've heard from Melissa Moran. She reads extremely fast, and it took me a few chapters to adjust. After a while, I came to love her; she speaks clearly but she will leave if you're not paying close attention.
