Rocked by the Alpha has a fascinating setup: the omega heroine Ruby is feisty and wants to set the rules of her relationships; the alpha West is easygoing and willing to accept Ruby’s precepts to be with her however he can. It’s a nice twist on the usual “dominant alpha, submissive omega” concept so endemic in omegaverse romance.

Haze also continues to build out her version of omegaverse in this second book of her Alpha Rock Stars series. In Ruby, we have an experienced omega who’s learned how to manage her heats and control her status well. Her pull to West is specifically tied to their appeal to one another, and that’s easy for each of them to accept. So what’s the problem? They are in rival rock bands, and even worse, the lead singer of Ruby’s band firmly believes West’s band stole the musical outline of one their songs.

So Ruby has to deal with bandmates who hate West’s band with a passion, and West is contending with bandmates who are fed up with the trash-talking campaign Ruby’s up-and-coming band has kept up against their highly successful rock group. Each has a good reason to keep their connection hidden. Seeing them slowly move from the occasional hookup to something more permanent while contending with all this tension in their groups was the intriguing core of Rocked by the Alpha.

I loved West, who’s laid back but more quickly comes to realize that Ruby’s it for him. Ruby is more complex; her relationship with her family and her band’s lead singer (and her best friend) are both relatively toxic, and Ruby must come to understand what she needs to do for herself and growing feelings for West instead of prioritizing others.

Haze writes this world with assurance, and I frankly can’t wait for the next book in this series, as each of the alpha bandmates of West finds their true omegas. It’s a marvelous mélange of rockstar and omegaverse romance that’s as addictive as a catchy hook in a great song.

Fun, flirty, sweet and heated. This is an entertaining omegaverse contemporary romance. I liked the push/pull dynamic between West and Ruby. Very enjoyable read.
