I liked it when I started. Then there was quite a period of being in a dark hole. I was elated to see Orville make his way through to the other side with some very keen insight. Loved his new found way of looking at people and their creations as being of the earth.   Loved his way of thinking it was important to understand who lived where we are before us.  Great to see the strength of the family structure. I don’t think this is often recognized.

a tender exploration of the Indigenous experience. the first few chapters were a little difficult to get into but the story of colonisation is a familiar one that unites Indigenous peoples across the globe and i soon felt so connected with these characters and their struggle and their hope. gorgeously written and imagined - explores so many ideas through its cast of characters and across several decades. the historical fiction of part one reads like a series of short stories that peel back the kinds of histories bearing down upon the characters we know from ‘there there.’ it was then incredibly easy to sink my teeth into parts two and three that dive into the aftermath of the first book’s events. a very tense but necessary read.
