Absurdism is always an adventure to read, one which many readers decline to experience. Despite absurdist short stories, novels and plays being difficult to scrutinise due to their simultaneous lack of meaning and extreme amount of meaning, they are fascinating works of fiction that play on individuals' understanding of reality.
The Metamorphosis is an extremely fascinating short story that in my understanding, appears to comment on social isolation, the impact of misfortune, and the meaninglessness of life. The transformations that take place in this bizarre book have more to do with changes in individual and group mentalities than that of the main character into a giant bug.
Gregor’s character is that of a man with many responsibilities and far-off dreams whose ordinary life is cut short due to extraordinary misfortune. The audience isn’t able to discover his character before his transformation thus it is difficult to assess certain potential changes in his behaviour. His family’s dynamic is expected and realistic for the time and the characters' actions are relatively expected in the face of the absurdism.
Kafka’s writing is interesting in a variety of ways, while not overly beautiful in description it is enjoyable and I have very little negativity on the phrasing. The version of this short story that I read had some errors and inconsistencies in writing which I believe are issues of the translator rather than Kafka himself.
The story takes place in an unspecified amount of time which is purposefully difficult to determine as Gregor isn’t aware himself. But the piece is extremely short and a quick read despite its heavy themes and bizarre qualities, easy to read in a day or two for any curious soul who wishes to discover absurdism. I am a lover of absurdism and acknowledge that many people do not feel the same but I encourage exploration of this bizarre text.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this piece of writing, Kafka brings forward an interesting absurdist piece that despite reports he didn’t want anyone to read his work, fascinates and delights people over a hundred years later.

Honestly if I read this during my post-hospitalization period I would have cried and probably killed my self using it as a justification.
