This book was recommended by multiple friends and initiall I wasn't sure whether it would be my kind of thing (I haven't read many classics before and the concept was described as "weird") I genuinely enjoyed it and was surprised by how much I read in such a short time (I know it's a short book but I'm a pretty slow/impatient reader). Once you get over the main "weird" concept of the book being Gregor as a giant bug, the actual plot isn't that odd. The character is very reflective and even though I am very different from him, I related to his emotions and felt very empathetic/pitiful towards him throughout the book. At a lot of times throughout the book, I was annoyed at his family and basically ever other character except Gregor for how they treated him, their cruelty was so unnecessary even if they didn't understand the situation. I feel like this book has a lot of depth and metaphors within it that I haven't fully realised yet, maybe links to classism or ableism or mental health issues. I'm excited to discuss this book with my friends. I really liked how descriptive it was and I could hardly tell that it was written in 1912 (to be fair, I am reading the German to English translation), however I was slightly frustrated in chapter 1 as it took almost 20 pages for the main character to even get out of bed.
