This author really excels at characterization, the stories were so rich and moving. I only docked half a star because the ending felt a bit cliche? Like the lines that were said felt too much like they were borrowed/influenced from other classic romances. But maybe I've been reading too many romance novels. Either way highly enjoyed and still recommend.

I was expecting to be disappointed after my experience reading Storm and Shield, but this book restored my faith in the series, and my love for the world J.D Evans created.

I loved Naime in Reign and Ruin, but Amara is even more lovely.  She is strong, she is wise, she is tenacious.

There are so many things about this book that I loved, it's hard to put them to words right now. The character development was stellar. The plot, amazing.

Although the pace was somewhat slow for me, it was worth in the end.

Cassian is... intriguing.

Indeed, Naime was right ti fear The Republic. Evans did a good job giving us an insight as to how that nation is cray cray.

Over all, this is a good read that sustains the series.
