I enjoyed it. It did feel really long and slow because it was basically all inner monologue between the two POVs; needs a little more to the plot. Left with lots of questions still. Loved the complex FMC and I have the eagerness to find out even more about her. The relationship between the main characters was everything. I love Maddox and how obsessively in love he was with his mate. Abrupt cliffhanger which I honestly expected, but it still sucked. I will definitely pick up book 2 in hopes we get some happiness for our main characters…. please

Kind of infuriating they don’t tell each other stuff. Like you feel this powerful bond between the two of you, you can tell him stuff and I think he’d understand. And why did he make her guess, just come out and say it to ease her mind

good but infuriating

I like this book and it’s Mc but omg she is INFURIATING! Sometimes I had to force myself to keep reading. Some of the plot felt unnecessary because of how long it took for them to actually say how they felt, when if they had only spoke one sentence it would’ve made it less insufferable. I love a good slow burn, but this was burning toooooo slow and when we finally got the moment on the last page we have been waiting for she does something that is, yet again, annoying. Also I feel like there is a plot hole about how strong she apparently is and has inhumane strength but almost every time she is in a bind she is subdued and needs to be saved.

This is a great book! I love how fierce and determined Evaline is, and it's very interesting to see how she navigates her situation. Maddox is awesome. I have no other words for him. He's just freaking awesome! I'm not a huge fan of major cliffhangers, so that's my only issue with the book... but that doesn't change my opinion of the story. I'm DYING to read the next one, October can't get here fast enough!!!!!

Bound and Barbed follows Evaline Manor who resides in the kingdom ruled by her uncle and aunt. When she is pushed into an engagement with a man she hates, Evaline accepts the help of two immortals in order to escape.

There were elements of this story that I liked – the fated mates aspect, the slow-burn romance and the respectable love interest. I felt these areas of the narrative were explored well and developed nicely. At the beginning of the novel things were bit wordy, there were multiple flashbacks (this is more of a pet peeve) and info dumps. It felt like the author was trying to jampack all the information at the start and it was a little overwhelming. In the second half of the novel the story flowed a lot better and I found myself enjoying the plot and characters more. There were a few conflicts borne out of miscommunication which annoyed me, and characters acting flimsy or OOC to create some tension, but I could overlook it.

The audiobook was pretty good. It takes me a while to warm up to the voices in general with audiobooks, but after the first few chapters both Tor and Auri’s performance became easy to listen to. At times it did feel a little dramatic. It wasn’t bad or anything, but I just don’t think I knew the characters well enough at that point to care about what was happening to them…thus it felt a little ‘too dramatic’.

Overall I enjoyed it, I think there’s a lot of potential for the series to get better as it goes. It will be interesting to see how Samantha R. Goode develops as a writer overtime - there were a lot of good elements here, I just think they could have been executed a bit better.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

this was my second time trying to read this and it was good! the first time i tried reading it by ebook and wasn’t really into it but this time i listed to it. definitely the way to go. even though there was definitely some miscommunication it was good! i really liked our mmc. i remembered him being more arrogant for some reason but really he wasn’t. he was actually protective and kind and just really wanted his mate lol. i think our fmc was a couple dumb decisions but when do they ever not? anyway excited to read the next one! although i saw that the last one doesn’t come out until august :(
