Forgettable and impersonal. Don't think he cared about birds and birding - he probably just wanted to break someone else's record and felt this was the easiest one that also allowed him to travel to places on other people's and nonprofit's dime.

Plus, there were pockets of attempts at trying to connect and speak on the locals and the countries he visited but it came off as white... Not even savior but just flat out tourist.

You can tell any educational tidbit in this book came from other sources - probably just Wikipedia vs. actual research.

If you search him up, all you see are examples of him milking this book. He has himself listed as a motivational speaker. This has got to be one of the least inspiring books I've read.

There are plenty of other books about birds that are exponentially more interesting. Perhaps the 29 other books on other birders who also did the "Big Year" challenge. I'm positive amongst those are people who actually care about birds and the hobby.

It's a straightforward travel memoir and that's just not really for me.
