I don't get the time period if this one. This is after the book about their son but he's never mentioned and Jane is referred to as a girl at one point, not as if they'd been married very long.

Plus it's an amnesia story. So overall I really don't like it. Skip this one, it's dumb.

This was the book that turned me off to the rest of the Tarzan novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. In my mind, Opar marked the beginning of ERB's efforts to milk the Tarzan legend. It is poorly written and poorly conceived and its only reason for being appears to have been to make money. Unlike his other extended series (the Martian series), the Tarzan novels that followed his first three seemd to me to have been written with little effort to entertain. I started a few of them, but they all seemed marked by the same drudgery in writing and imagination as Opar. Too bad.

I hate Opar. I don't like amnesia. I think mere mortals causing problems for Tarzan seems unrealistic (I want realism in my jungle fantasies). This was the worst Tarzan book so far. I think you could probably just skip it. Nothing was different at the end from the beginning. It was a filler book.

Neat how the different story lines connect. A fun adventure if a bit gory at times. I guess he is king of the jungle!

A good entry into the Tarzan series. I like it better than the previous one. My only qualm about it is that Tarzan kills way too many damn lions. Sometimes it seems unnecessary. In a nutshell, Tarzan needs money, so he goes to Opar to get some gold. Naturally he and Jane run into trouble when a man named Zet is trying to kill him, and the priestess of Opar wants to sacrifice him for not returning her love. During all this Tarzan loses his memory and reverts back to being a man of the jungle. It's a fun adventure novel.

Tarzan loses his memories… and his personality… and the plot.

Mais uma das narrativas de Tarzan, cheia de aventuras, encontros e desencontros. Faltam ainda algumas para ler, mas é sempre empolgante!1
