I really enjoyed this book! I snagged it at the museum gift shop after several hours at the National Gallery of Art in DC, a bit on a whim. I was so happy with the purchase. It now makes me want to paint more, make my own paints, travel to find these paints, ALL OF THE PAINT.

This nonfiction book was an easy read and fun. There was hardly a dry section! The author wrote about her adventures in search for colors and it made it interesting to go through.

Sometimes it did veer into digressions and minor details, but the history presented behind the colours was amazing. I loved the Ochre and Blue chapters the most. Feels like a spiritual companion to "The secret lives of colours"

What a good book!
I actually read less and less of this book so it would last longer. I learned so much from it, and enjoyed the forays into the realm of possibility with the author. I found blue and indigo to be the most interesting chapters, but there were no bad ones. I liked the inclusions of ochre, white, and black, too. I think they added a lot to the “rainbow.” I can’t wait to share this book with others!

Es como una bitacora de viajes alrededor del mundo en busca de origen de los colores, los pigmentos y los artistas. Por momentos largo y descriptivo demás, pero interesante.

Came to me via a bookbox organized by MaryZee

An interesting look at the history of color. Ms. Finlay had many adventures in her attempt to find the true color. I enjoyed reading it, but am glad I spread it out. I don't think this is the sort of book I could have read all at once.

sincerely, non-fiction reads smoothly and has it all.
I love an author who can weave in her dead-ends and
make me feel like I want to adventure with her.
May be one of my all time favorites

POPSUGAR 2018 Reading Challenge: A microhistory

This was an interesting enough book, but definitely far too long.

This isn't one to be read all of the way through at one time; it's best to read a chapter every once in a while. There were times where it was a bit monotonous and would have been more so if I had read it all at once. That being said, I learned a whole lot of interesting facts not only about color, but also etymology, history, and people.
