This was an amazing book that really made you think, but was mindless, heavy but light. I almost want to release it because of the revelation of the fact that Vida Winter wasn't Adeline at all, but a half sister of Adeline's and Emmeline might not have been Emmeline, but Adeline. I was very happy for Arlius when he finally found his family and discovered his birthday, thanks to Margaret.

Mesmerizing prose

I enjoyed this read immensely, particularly the tying up of all loose ends at the conclusion- although I did get the sense that the author showed a bit of condescension at readers' desire for such. The prose was rich and deeply satisfying, so I will overlook being poked fun at a bit, I suppose.

This book provoked me to read Jane Eyre, a classic of the sort which I normally wouldn't have considered. For me, this broadened my horizon a bit.

If you don't like Jane Eyer or The Woman in White, then this is really a waste of time.
The first 1/3 had been engaging and after that I felt obliged to finish it, but it was really painful since the author is too feminine and too sensitive to my taste. And there's almost not a single person with a normal personality in the book.

Dark and twisty. Actually had me guessing all throughout without me having it figured out for once.
