There's a main character with a "rightious" goal, humour between a Death God and a student, mind games with an unknown Sherlock Holmes impersonator, and a book that kills all of whom are named within.

RATING: 5 stars

This story is SO good omg, even the second time around. I've seen the first 18-ish episodes of the anime and have been meaning to finish it for ages but the manga is just as good! (I mean, it's the exact same story so obviously lol)

The concept itself is really interesting, and I love how you keep learning about new rules and how the Death Note works as the story goes on. It literally never gets boring. Also I wish more manga had editions like this because getting two volumes at once is way better than getting just one lol- it doesn't break the flow of the story as much.

I actually really like Light as a character but I wish he was a little bit more interesting. No wonder the synopsis says he gets obsessed with the Death Note so quickly because he's bored out of his mind lol. All the guy does is study, eat, and sleep.

Also I think having Ryuk around adds a lot to the story lol, he's oddly chill for a death god and just hangs around making jokes and asking for apples. Him being neutral is a good thing I think because it means he's not too scary (or else this might have been horror and not... mystery? Thriller? what is this classified as?)

My one problem with it would be that it's a bit easier to follow what's going on in the anime... a lot of the story is centered around how Light and L are trying to outsmart each other and that means there's a lot of internal thoughts and monologues and stuff as they think things through and I think that's easier to process (because it's essentially info-dumping) when someone is saying it onscreen rather than reading it and trying to concentrate, ig. Luckily I've already seen the anime so I had no problem with that lol.

Anyway, I'm really excited to keep going! I've been spoiled for some big stuff in the series but hopefully it'll still be interesting to see how those things actually happen lol

As I expected reading two volumes together was a lot smoother than breaking between though marathon reading it over the course of a day was probably a mistake. I'm definitely curious to see what happens next and how the series will eventually wrap.
