Wow, what a great book. I’m a sucker for friends to enemies to lovers, and both Sloane and Lucien were great characters in the last two books. They absolutely brought it as main characters! And for vanilla sex, that shit was spicy! I’m obsessed.

Dark Romance, Friends to Enemies to Lovers, Lots of Trauma, 3 3/4 🔥

“You can’t just keep putting your emotions in a box with a lid and expecting them to stay there. That’s not what feelings do.”

I just knew that Sloane and Lucian were going to be my favorite couple in this series and this book did not disappoint! It was so fun being able to see their relationship evolve throughout the book. The flashbacks really added depth to the characters journeys. Sloane and Lucian have red hot chemistry. This was a well thought out childhood friends to enemies to friends with benefits to lovers story. The arc of Lucian was truly *chef’s kiss* He is a mix of broody protective and secretly sweet and caring. The continuation of the plot surrounding the crime boss added an element of suspense that had you turning the page for more.  I will say this book had no business being this long! While I enjoyed the story it could have been edited down from the almost 600 pages. Despite that I did enjoy this book and would recommend it.

Two words. SUIT. DADDY. That’s it, that’s the review.

Just kidding, however I knew that this Things We Left Behind would be my favorite out of the Knockemout books before I even finished Chapter 1. I am really drawn to FMCs that go through what Sloan, her mother, and her sister go through in Chapter 1 because I lived it back in 2021. I bawled like a baby, and the emotions did not stop there. I felt so many emotions during this entire book. There is history and there are secrets. There are broken promises and grudges. Yet, there is love and provisions, even when one may think otherwise.

I loved how the author peeled back Lucifer’s, I mean Lucian’s, layers throughout the book to reveal such a compelling character, and I relate to Sloan more than any other of the FMCs in the series. I mean this quote alone is just something that would come out of my mouth “He was tall, dark, and evil. I was short, fair, and awesome.”💁🏾‍♀️

Lucy Score is an auto-buy author for me because of the depth of relationships she builds among her characters, and while I was expecting the regulars from the previous books, I was still pleasantly surprised by how she interweaved additional characters, and so many beautiful stories while keeping the focus on Lucian and Sloan as so many of us were looking forward to.

I know that domestic violence and abuse are topics that are hard to discuss, but  I appreciate that awareness was brought to not only the physical effects but mental and inter-relational impacts as well.

Favorite Quotes

“All for you. Always”

“It was funny how I needed to remind myself to do something as automatic as breathing. Grief had a way of infiltrating everything, even when you were prepared for it.”

“Hope. Some of us didn’t get the luxury of hope. Some of us weren’t worthy of it.”

“Take care of my girls.”

Ps. I knew that man was dirty since last book

Yes, yes, yes! I'm so happy that we finally got Sloane and Lucian's story! I've been excited to read it since we first met both in book 1, and it was even better than I hoped for. The tension between them is so good that I kept wanting to push them to get together and squealed when (and how) it finally happened. The suspense plot is big enough to keep you on your toes but not so big that it distracts from the romance, so good! It was a heartbreaking story at times, dealing with heavy topics, but it still made my heart so happy. It never felt like I was reading a 600-page book to me, I always fly through any Lucy Score book and this was no different. The story, the town, the people will suck you in and you won't be able to let go until you're done. And maybe even after finishing the book you won't quite let them go! It was great seeing the others there again, and the epilogues were just perfect!

I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book
