*Spoilers* So boring. At first I didn't find it very interesting because not long before reading this I'd read In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick, so a lot in regards to Nantucket and whaling and the shipwreck felt repetitive, far too similar to In the Heart of the Sea. After they were rescued from the shipwreck, I lost interest in the story. There were too many abrupt changes in the story. It felt like the author had tried to stick two stories together (the shipwreck and the journey to the South Pole). The story felt very disjointed. Also the ending felt a bit cheap, like the auhor had no idea how to finish the story, so he just didn't.

I normally love Poe, but this book (his only novel) did not meet my expectations in any way. The beginning was somewhat exciting and adventurous but then it droned on with too many details about boring matters.
