Cockroaches enter into parliament with the intention to overthrow Britain; they succeed. Ian McEwan writes about Reversalism (a clear allegory for Brexit) with such humour and insight that I found myself reading with absolute glee the whole way through.

It was strangely comforting to imagine that this could be the explanation for recent political events.

I sensed with this that McEwan had some anger to redirect in the wake of the Brexit referendum! It's a brilliant little satire that manages to make Brexit almost seem tame in comparison with what Jim Sams' government manages to accomplish. I loved some of the allusions to real life politicians (hello Donald Trump's Tweets), and of course the whole concept was really dark and funny.
