A mystery with some fantastical elements that is difficult to put down once you start.

Despite the short length of the book, it is a slow start full of world building. However once you get past that it is so incredibly captivating, and I come to realize how amazing the world building is. Although Piranesi isn’t the only character, he is pretty much the only character you see majority of the time, but even so he’s engaging and the storytelling is fantastic, immersive, and so unique. I loved how soft the fantasy elements were and the way the novel was structured. Basically everything that I found slightly confusing at first were all things that I came to appreciate and really enjoy.

I think Susanna Clarke deserved the awards she got for this book, and I understand why I heard so much praise for it, but I can also see how this book wouldn’t be for every type of reader. Luckily, I enjoyed it immensely and I found that this is the type of story that lingers and leaves a lot to think on afterwards. One of them being that personally, I would love to see The House because to Me it sounded beautiful despite its solitude. I also think it would be interesting to see how other readers viewed The House, in a personality test type of way.

Piranesi is the new literary love of my life. It is profound and wonderful. It reads like a classic — one which your soul has read many times before - one you might expect to find hidden away, with an inscription on the first page, gifting to an ancestor of yours, by an ancestor of theirs.
This book is nothing like what I expected but everything I had hoped.

"Perhaps that is what it is like being with other people. Perhaps even people you like and admire immensely can make you see the World in ways you would rather not."

Immersive. Baffling. Brilliant.

This is a relatively short book. How did all the action start only at like 50% (if not 75%)? At first I was hooked. I liked the dream-like atmosphere, mistery, and vibes. But. This action thing started just before me dnf ing this. At some point (second cuarter?)i got annoyed by piranesi’s innosence. Even the action started slowly and built itself up. Then down again.. i wouldnt recommend spending your time on this. Read a spoilary discussion somewhere if you must. There are much better things out there. If there were any plot twists at all I predicted them already. Yes the 6th and 7th parts are nice. But still. Dissapointment.

Piranesi is an exciting mystery which plays out in a uniquely imagined and uniquely rendered physical environment. The titular character is both interesting and likeable; his great curiosity and compassion animate his interactions and tie the different threads of his story together. With the exception of a single episode I found overly abrupt, his gradual development as a character is measured and well-paced. The story's resolution is also well-paced; Clarke avoids the tendency of suspenseful stories of this sort to become overly frenetic and lose some of their subtlety as they approach a finale.
