Entertaining. The best part of this -- the vivid descriptions of how miserably, miserably cold it get in South Dakota. The South Dakota Tourism Board should buy up every copy of this book. No one who reads this book will ever visit. This is my first "Jack Reacher" novel, and maybe not the best one to start with, but a good introduction to an interesting character and well-plotted thriller by a better-than-average writer in the genre. Perfect book for a few (OK, I'm a slow reader!) airplane rides.

This was still a fun fast read but I feel like Jack Reacharound didn't really kick enough asses or headbutt enough bad guys. Liked the setting but kind of wished Jack Reacharound didn't bitch so much about the cold. There weren't any hot babes in this one either, so ... I liked when he beat up the midget while on his knees.
3 stars - This is my least favorite of all the Jack Reacher stories. It falls short of being a page turner to the extent that I think the author may have gone back and added the 61 hour count down to try and develop suspense. It fails to do that. Worst of all, the ending fails to tie up one major plot point and a minor point or two, as well as being very unfulfilling to Reacher's story.
I like to read crime fiction on the bus/my lunch break/any time I want to pick up a book but don't have the time to get emotionally invested. This one did the job nicely, caught the first twist about 100 pages before it happened then, after some slightly convoluted actions from the hero requiring some major suspension of disbelief on my part, was completely thrown by the ending.
This is one of the better Jack Reacher books. Takes place in a small South Dakota prison town. Someone isn't what they appear...
