Ο Τζακ Ρίτσερ τρέχει προς τον κίνδυνο ακόμα κι όταν κοιμάται σε ένα λεωφορείο με συνταξιούχους.
Μια μικρή πόλη 12.000 κατοίκων τον περιμένει (χωρίς να το ξέρει ο Τζακ -ή ακόμη και η πόλη) να διαλευκάνει εγκλήματα, να βρει διεφθαρμένους μπάτσους και να σαπίσει στο ξύλο μεγαλοκακοποιούς πρεζέμπορες ύψους 1.55 (ναι, σωστά διαβάσατε, ο Τζάκαρος σαπακιάζει ένα τυπά 1.55 μέτρα ύψος, επειδή Τζακ Ρίτσερ).
Μέσα σε όλα αυτά, ενώ αφήνει να σκοτώσουν τη βασική μάρυρα μιας πολύ σημαντικής δίκης, προλαβαίνει να τον καψουρευτεί ΑΠΟ ΤΟ ΤΗΛΕΦΩΝΟ και χωρίς να τον έχει δει ποτέ μια στρατονόμος που έχει πάρει την παλιά του θέση στον 110ο λόχο και να σκοτώσει τον αρχηγό της αστυνομίας της μικρής πόλης.
Περιέργως, το βιβλίο τελειώνει και ο Τζάκαρος δεν "το έχει βρέξει" ακόμα, αλλά για περιμένετε... τι βλέπω; Ααααα συνεχίζεται στο επόμενο.
Συνοψίζοντας, για πρώτη φορά βλέπουμε τον Τζακ να κάνει και λάθη (βέβαια, η βοήθεια που δίνει στο τηλεφωνικό του κομενέτο είναι άψογη) και να μην προλαβαίνει να κατεβάσει το φερμουάρ του για χάρη κάποιας θεογκόμενας.
Το ξύλο δεν είναι αρκετό (ακόμη και ο νάνος που είπαμε ψοφάει γρήγορα στα χέρια του Τζάκαρου) και γενικώς φαίνεται ότι ο Τσάιλντ επενδύει σε μια πιο σοβαρή και ανθρώπινη εκδοχή του Κόναν των Σκακιστών Τζακ Ρίτσερ. Λογοτεχνικό ισοδύναμο ενός ελαφρώς λασπερού πόρδου, ιδανικό για παραλία μετά από 6-7 μπίρες. Ακόμη αναρωτιέμαι γιατί συνεχίζω τη σειρά, ενώ έχω πολύ πιο αξιόλογα βιβλία στην άκρη. Ίσως επειδή ΧΜΟΥΩΩΩΩΩΡΓΚ και μάλλον επειδή Τζακ Ρίτσερ.

This book wasn't as exciting to me as the last Jack Reacher books I read. However, I did enjoy the fact that there wasn't as much violence as his other books tend to have. As you can see it took me almost 3 months to read so it wasn't the type of book that pulled me in until the last 125 pages. Those I read in an afternoon and couldn't put it down to finish. But overall, it was a good book and I will definitely continue to read more by Lee Child.

Child is back to what works best, a single plotline with all mysteries stemming from there and it pays off.
The books range from how action-oriented they are. There's also some tension and potential fights, but not always any action until the end. This book leans heavier in the thriller side of things, but doesn't lose anything in doing so.
The mysteries are intriguing, the tension is kept up throughout the book, and the climax really delivers.

A fast page turning story, another of Jack Reacher’s dramas. Stranded in the town of Bolton South Dakota, Jack ends up being asked to help with the protection of a witness of a local woman. Tension builds up as people are killed, prisoner riot is caused as a distraction by the person who will be affected by the witness’s statement. An old building is found to have a cache of meth and jewellery hidden underground. Tension builds up until the inevitable demise of the perpetrator

So much fun! My brother rec'd this to me; he has great taste!
Parts of it were a bit of a slog for me, as I don't appreciate over-punctuating simply to make something dramatic, specifically when it's peppered all over the book. It made it slow and annoying in places :/
However! I liked the overall adventure of it, and seeing Reacher with a lil old lady was very wholesome. I liked his relationship with Peterson, too, and how ALIVE he seems here.
After seeing season 1 of the show on Amazon, I figured he wouldn't be likeable to me--too straightforward, dull, unexpressive, aggressive, etc. But, after reading one of the books, I have a new appreciation for him. He's truly just a guy who wants to do the right thing, even if he didn't choose to be there. I was pleasantly surprised to see how socially pleasant he is. He's honest, but not a jerk. He's righteous, but not in himself. He is helpful and caters to those around him.
He's also huge and could kill me by osmosis.
