More feeling and less action packed that other installments but still more than entertaining. There were some surprises along the way... sadly they weren't happy ones but at least we saw some much deserved suffering!
I saw Reacher growing older or maybe it was the cold that slowed his mind... because it took him more time than necessary to figure things out!

This is the first time I've read any Lee Child books and did so upon recommendation of my dad. I enjoyed the storyline of this one and Jack Reacher's character whom I assume more is revealed about in each of the many books that features him. The other characters in the book lacked depth to me and I predicted who the villain was, which is why I gave it three stars instead of four. For an action-writer, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up any of his stuff again.
Mostly what I expected and was looking for in another installment of the Jack Reacher series. Not the best, but far better than the worst (so far, installment 12, Nothing to Lose). Mostly true to form as an enjoyable straightforward package of escapist "literature" offering an extremely quick read, a healthy dose of violence, a dollop of mystery and intrigue, all sufficiently entertaining that it was pretty much a start-to-finish affair, without much interruption ....
As the title implies, the hook in this one is the countdown. Frankly, I found that to be completely ineffective, a minor distraction, a confusing diversion, and, for the most part, I simply ignored it. I didn't think it added anything to the story line, nor was it ever sufficiently explained to justify the effort.
Oh, and while this is no spoiler, there's a very un-Reacher ending. It is what it is.
Child likes to change voice - and the variety is nice - but, alas, for me these books work much better in first person.... I'm ready for Reacher to re-install the helmet-cam and narration device....
As is often the case, the plot is probably too complex by half, but, c'mon, this wasn't intended to be particularly thought-provoking, and it surely doesn't need to make sense.... It's just a rapid pace, take no prisoners, wrecking ball, madness and mayhem experience. In other words, an easy, fun read.

A bus crashes in a snowstorm on the way to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota in the middle of winter. This was a hard to put down read - the author wove a great story and kept me interested. I really think Tom Cruise was the totally wrong choice for this character in the movies, but oh well.
Excellent!! Great story and characters as always!! I will be sure to read the next one in the series!!

Let's get this straight - this isn't deep. It's not literary. But when I wanted a light read at my in-laws over Christmas, this was just about perfect. It's not taxing, but neither is it the incredibly short chapters and no-mystery-at-all of a James Patterson book. In fact, Child pulled off the difficult trick of making me think that my first instinct about the bad guy was wrong, and then having it be true after all. That's a good move - the staple of J.K. Rowling, when it came to Snape.

Jack Reacher did not kick as much ass as I expected. Should I read a different Jack Reacher novel? I have so many questions! Was this book terrible? did the twist compensate for the fact that unless you know the twist, EVERYTHING is really dumb? Did anyone really care about anything? Jack Reacher is so tall! That is the main feeling you get from this book: Jack Reacher is tall.
