Very good mystery. It had me guessing to the very end. But somehow I knew once I saw it involved Jews escaping Germany during the war that it would involved Nazis hiding out in England.

The other great development was the decision made by Gemma concerning her and Duncan. I knew it was coming. I just had no idea it would be handled in the way that it was. Part of me thinks it’s about time, but the other part of me believes the major allure of this series is the slow trickle of progress in Gemma and Duncan’s relationship. Things get spoiled if they move too quickly and I’m relishing the slow burn here.

I love this series by Deborah Crombie. However, I do recommend that you read them in order because of the wonderful character development. Which is not to say that you can't just pick one up and enjoy every juicy morsel. But in terms of plot and character, they do build on each other. Having said that, this British police procedural is a welcome addition to the series. It has everything--good characters, a cold case, Nazi intrigue that is unmasked all of these years later, and interesting characters. My only small criticism is that one of the subplots wasn't tied up as neatly as I would have liked and the ending came very suddenly. But other than that, a really good read. I look forward to the next installment of this series.
