First read this book in elementary school and then again in jr high and then again in high school. It's one of my faves and I am hoping Gabriel will like it too!

This is another one of those books I loved as a child but now as an adult I’ve been wondering why. It’s another slice of life, antidotal book. I guess I enjoyed it because when I read it, I could relate to Anne - the first born - and what it was like to live in a large family, though with seven less children.
I know people think this is outdated for the most part but you have to remember this was a different time with a different set of values and I imagine if Mr. Gilberth had lived today, he may have adapted to them because there would have been nothing else to do.
Anyway, I’m still fond of this book. It was one of the first books I read with swearing and it delighted me as a little girl and some of the words even snuck into my vocabulary. Also, it’s still pretty funny and charming even today. It’s just not as great as I remembered it to be.

3/5: I'd read this one years and years ago, but my husband mentioned it the other day as an impressive study on efficiency or something, but I didn't remember that. Reading it, one has to remember when it was written.

This book tells the true story of the Gilbreth siblings and their parents. Their parents were engineers and found ways to use time efficiently among other things. Their dad had a really cool, easy way of doing complex multiplication problems (if only I could remember it now). This book and it's sequel were made into movies in the mid-twentieth century and again around the early 2000s. I highly recommend the first set of movies and the books.

Read this aloud with my kids. Quite different than the movies, but we all enjoyed it. My 11yo said, “This book is the greatest!” We got some great ideas for learning and working together as a family. The dad is quite a character.
