I do not like Turton's writing style (very simplistic, preachy), but he does write a compelling mystery! Everyone's memory is wiped, so it's not a matter of figuring out who is lying, and it obviously presents a whole new set of hurdles.
The super short chapters make it a breeze to read, but they also frustrate me because it seems mostly like he doesn't want to or know how to transition scenes, so he just stops writing one and starts another. I also didn't like a single character.

Finishing a book commonly takes me 3 months. This one took me three days. It gives a whole new meaning to the concept of a page turner. Stuart is my most favorite writer of this decade, and it's not close.

Ia dar 2.75 mas o fim ficou um bocadinho melhor. Os conceitos dos livros deste autor parecem sempre super interessantes mas depois a execução é sempre questionável. Acho que o livro demorou demasiado tempo a avançar, sendo que os primeiros 45% do livro são capítulos de 5 páginas a descrever in length as sentimentos ou os mistérios da vida de personagens que nem são apresentadas como deve de ser. Se eu descrevesse a história soaria super emocionante mas não vale a pena ler

My book club chose thus book and I fully expected it to be mid at best but I really loved this! A murder mystery on an island with the extinction of the human raceonly hours away, the stakes couldn't have been higher, the plot moved at the perfect speed. I loved the ways the author used memory and the lack thereof to build tension. Throughout an otherwise fun plot we also explored authoritarianism and autonomy and familial bonds. This was so unexpected and I'm so glad I read it!
Way more sci-fi/horror/dystopia than I expected, rather than a simple murder mystery. Lots of really fun unexpected twists!
