Incredible story about William Lewis, a black smith, and his family. Really enjoyed reading this book about someone who worked so hard for freedom.

This is the incredible true story of William "Bill" Lewis, son of an enslaved Black woman and the white man who enslaved her. Bill worked tirelessly as a blacksmith from a young boy on until he had saved enough money to pay for the freedom for himself and his entire family - first his wife, then his son, then his mother, aunt, and siblings. The book includes a photograph of Bill and his family from 1889, when Bill was approximately 79 years old.
