if anyone was going to make me like YA it would be ms. emily henry. but damn the job just can’t be done.

to be fair… yes I did like this. but I hate YA and I usually don’t love magical realism. this was already a major stretch for me.

it still feels like emily henry, but it doesn’t fully have the same charm as her adult work.

I really enjoyed this! It had so much sadness,  joy, redemption,  depth and whimsy.  It brought up great conversations of generational biases and grief. I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did because it was marketed as YA, but please don't let that hold you back from trying it.  It still has Emily Henry's voice throughout.  I plan to reread this someday.

The end letter from her dad redeemed but he did kinda suck and the step dad is the goat. Her parents also did not need to name her jack for traditions sake. The teacher needed to butt out and not meddle in her personal life, boundaries people. June and Saul were cute.
