Qué delicia de historia. No ha ido en ningún momento por donde yo esperaba que fuera y aún así la he disfrutado un montón.

Last year, this book received all the hype. And I was reluctant to pick it up because...what book can live up to all that hype? Well, this one can.
I dove into the book thinking I would be reading a story about twin sisters and race, but it's so much more than that. Bennett has managed to create a compelling story centered around these two sisters and the divergent paths they decide to take. But this story is also about identity, family, sexuality, feminism, motherhood, and all of the things that make up these complicated and heartwarming characters.
Barry and Reese are two of my favorite characters and they are anything but conventional. I also loved the ironic comparison between Mallard and the upper class white neighborhoods, both looking down on those with dark skin but from different lenses.
This book received plenty of praise last year, and it is well-deserved. It's always such a nice surprise when books really do live up to the hype.

Breathtaking, not only because it’s reminiscent of Toni, but because of everything else - the characters, the prose, Bennett’s ability to take us on a journey through time. I think I’ll be calling this my favorite book for the next decade, easy.
Imagine taking care of your dement mother for years, only for her to solely remember the name of your twin sister who left you both. Personally, I would not let that slide.
