It was generally pretty interesting. The writing style and book organization could use some work, though.

Very short historical snippets, not at all heavy on dates and facts. More like listening to gossip than history, but just enough history to keep it from being an out of date tabloid.

A collection of princesses who rejected the duties and/or restrictions of royal womanhood. Some were rebels, some were addicts, some were mentally unwell. Each story puts the princess’s life in context, showing how the restrictions and lack of affection inherent in royal life and marriage wrecked havoc on the lives of girls and women. Some broke free of the molds and made lives for themselves; others imploded, often publicly. While each story has the context of that princess’s life, there’s no overall examination of how royal womanhood and its expectations defined the rules these princesses didn’t follow. Without that, their lives are defined by behaving badly instead of showing how the rules gave them no chance to define themselves.

This book is FANTASTIC. It's written with wit and full of fascinating stories from history. The author is honest about what is probably true about some infamous women and what is... well... PROBABLY just myth. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read and just absolutely intriguing.

Interesting romp through the history of female royals all over the world, and how their lives really were in the context of their time. It doesn't delve deeply into any one story but I made multiple notes on women I now want to learn more about.

This is a popular survey of global "princesses"--from the ancient world to the present--who lived very different from Disney lives (including Olga of the Flaming Birds, Hatsheput and Empress Wu). Without a bibliography or notes, so this is far better as a costume-inspiration and introduction than history text.

I loved this book! There were so many historical figures I’d never heard about before reading it. It was whimsical in its theme and so much fun to read.

I had been meaning to read this book for quite some time and realised that it was at my library. So I picked it up, and I'm really glad I did. It was really interesting. There were stories that were new to me and stories that I knew of. Some of the older stories were of course more based on myths or tall tales but they were interesting none the less. I really liked reading about the "princesses that went mad."
Interesting book. I give it more of a 3.5.

This was good. I enjoyed this a lot. It quick and informative. It makes you want to know more about these women.

Eh. Love the premise but not so much the execution. The author added in commentary that didn’t seem to fit and not all of the stories seemed well researched.
